Overall, my work is about making the user feel. In my functional work it’s literal, taking the form of a tactile experience, in my art it’s about keeping the viewer feeling uncomfortable.
My functional pots are all about glaze texture. I like the transition of smooth glaze to rough slip, or a matte glaze that mixes with a glossy one to create streaks of texture and pattern. Things that work the same every time tend to bore me, so I like that these glazes sometimes give me unexpected results.
The more art style work I produce is rooted in feminism. I like to decorate my pots with the human body and images of sexuality, displaying both in a positive light. I’m very influenced by the image of Venus in her many forms, “Olympia” by Manet is of particular interest to me because of her strong, unapologetic gaze. I want my work to make the viewer question the way they feel about the body and sexuality by putting it in front of them, on the wall or table.
